Fasching in Munich is kicking off! Which means it’s time to PARTY! So let us give you the low down on how Fasching in Munich works; what the important dates are and what all the essential events to attend are to have your best February yet.

Faschingsumzug Der Damischen Ritter
…or, to those not familiar, the big Munich Fasching parade! This essential kick off to the Fasching season is a vibrant adventure through the inner city.
Floats, musical performances and more, from 42 different groups, of 1,500 people make their way through the old town in what is referred to as the “Gaudiwurm”*
*Gaudi is a Bavarian word for fun..but, like, a lot of fun (maybe not the best translation, but we tried). And Wurm is just as it may sound, Worm. So hey, this parade is just a big ole’ party worm, and we are sold!
When: February 4, 2024 // 13:13 p.m
Where: From Frauenstrasse, Blumenstrasse and Corneliusstrasse, through Rosental and Färbergraben, via Kaufingerstrasse and Marienplatz to the Old Town Hall.
The München Narrisch
Get ready for a 3 day street party in the Altstadt stretching from Stachus to Viktualienmarkt! With stages on Marienplatz and Karlsplatz-Stachus holding performances, live music, DJs and more!
With all the colourful costumes, jokes and ridiculous antics expected, this is one Fasching tradition you definitely need to make sure to catch!
When: February 11 – 13, 2024 // 10:30am, performances start at 12
Where: From Stachus to Viktualienmarkt
Unsinniger Donnerstag
A traditional big Fasching street party in Viktualienmarkt is held on this day (as well as multiple other parties throughout the city!).
The motto for this year being „Fasching hat Herz“ or “Fasching has heart”, is meant to signify the unity of Munich organisations coming together to create this big, bright bash.
You can expect loads of great performances including a traditional Fasching guards show and even one of OKtoberfest’s famous tent bands playing!
When: February 8, 2024 from 2 p.m onwards
Where: Viktualienmarkt
Tanz Der Marktweiber (Dance Of The Market Women)
Get ready for an array of performances and celebrations. The highlight is of course the choreographed dance performance from the female stall-owners of Viktualienmarkt, a tradition that has been going on for over 100 years!
The stall owners create costumes to represent their individual stands and what is sold there. Then after the big performance, Viktualientmarkt splits into a big variety of open array parties with special treats and music in participating stands.

When: On Fasching Dienstag ( February 13, 2024) // this classic event starts at 10 a.m, but the party continues until 7pm!
Bars And Clubs All Around Town
Let’s be honest – people in Munich love a good excuse to party! Unsurprisingly then, there are plenty of Fasching Dienstag (Shrove Tuesday) parties happening at bars and clubs all over Munich.
