It’s official – the long awaited Starkbierfest celebrations at Munich’s Paulaner am Nockherberg will not proceed as planned this year, joining a series of important Munich events that have been postponed/cancelled this week in response to the growing risk of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).

The much beloved local festival was meant to kick off this week, running from March 13 until April 5.

As announced on Nockherberg’s official website and social media channels, the festival will be postponed until a future date that is still being discussed. It is likely the event will take place when the weather warms up, as a potential May Day celebration.

As stated in their official announcement, all reservations and tickets sold will still be honoured at the rescheduled event.

Here is a rough English translation of the message posted on their official website/social media here:

“POSTPONED IS NOT CANCELLED

Unfortunately, the original strong beer festival in Paulaner am Nockherberg cannot take place during Lent this year due to the current developments and the instructions from our authorities. The common good is our top priority.

We would like to take up the words of our Prime Minister Markus SΓΆder and, like him, believe that we will hopefully have enough reason to celebrate after this time. We take this as an opportunity to look positively into the future together with our guests and all strong beer friends and postpone the strong beer festival, initially as a planned May Day, into the warmer season.

As soon as we have found an appointment with our partner, the Paulaner Brewery, depending on the course of the coming weeks and months, it will be announced in the press, on our website and on social media. In the meantime, all tickets that have already been paid for remain valid.

Until then, take care of yourself and your loved ones, stay healthy and visit us in our tavern and our beautiful beer garden.

Sincerely
the team from Nockherberg”
