What’s better than summer time in Munich? The sun is shining, the whole city’s happy and yes, the alcohol is flowing well into the warm hours of the evening.

And while Munich is best known for its beer gardens and cozy beer halls, the city does have a few secret tricks up its sleeve… including rooftop bars with picture-perfect views.

So, if you’re looking to booze up somewhere besides a beloved biergarten, here are some stunning rooftop bars in Munich that you need to check out.

While they’re certainly not the cheapest places in the city to grab a drink, they ARE the most scenic… so get those cameras ready 😉

1. The Mahjong Roof Garden at the Mandarin Oriental

Address: Neuturmstraße 1

This gorgeous rooftop bar (open exclusively in the summer) is the perfect place to sip on some cocktails while admiring views of Munich’s Old Town, with classic staples of the city skyline like the Frauenkirche and Neues Rathaus in view.

The cocktails here are delicious (albeit a little pricey), but with views like these, you really can’t go wrong!

2. Flushing Meadows Hotel Bar

Address: Fraunhoferstraße 32

Perched on the top floor of the Flushing Meadows Hotel, this bar serves cocktails and aperitifs from 5pm onwards, with sweeping views that stretch (on sunny days) all the way to the Alps.

3. Café im Vorhoelzer Forum

Address: Arcisstraße 21

Hidden away in a TUM campus building, this rooftop bar is one of Munich’s best kept secrets.

With stunning views over Maxvorstadt, the Café im Vorhoelzer Forum offers a panoramic overview of Munich like you’ve never seen before.

NOTE: To access the bar, you need to go inside the TUM building and take an elevator up. Just follow the signs!

4. Roof Terrace at the Bayerischer Hof Hotel

Address: Promenadepl. 2-6

A fancy rooftop bar set atop one of Munich’s fanciest hotels, with an awesome view over Old Town (the Frauenkirche specifically!)

Naturally, the prices here aren’t cheap but the views are some of the best you’ll get in town.

5. Cafe Glockenspiel

Address: Marienplatz 28

A little touristy, but for good reason – the views here overlooking Marienplatz and the Neues Rathaus are gorgeous.

And while the outdoor terrace itself doesn’t boast these views (only indoor seating overlooks Marienplatz), you get awesome views over colourful Old Town all the same.

6. Louis Hotel

Address: Viktualienmarkt 6

The Emiko Rooftop Terrace is a summertime gem that can be found at the Louis Hotel, a beautiful design hotel overlooking Viktualienmarkt.

While here, treat yourself to some yummy modern Japanese cuisine, or just a drink with amazing views.

7. The Grill Terrace

Address: Lenbachpl. 8

While not as a high up (literally) as some of the other picks on our list, the terrace at the Grill deserves a mention too for its views over Lenbachplatz.

8. Dachterrasse Deutsche Eiche

Address: Reichenbachstraße 13

On a clear day, you can enjoy your drinks on the rooftop of the Deutsche Eiche hotel with views over Old Town and the Alps!

NOTE: The terrace is for hotel, restaurant or spa guests only.

9. Bar of Bel Air

Address: Atelierstraße 4

Last but not least, if you’re after something a bit more hip and casual, check out the Bar of Bel Air in the ultra-cool Werksviertel Mitte behind Ostbahnof. While the views aren’t as picture-perfect as the other spots on our list, the chill, laidback vibes more than make up for it.
