It’s almost the messiest time of the year folks – the Munich Starkbierfest season is back and we are already stocking up on headache tablets…and creating the ultimate guide to share!
Starting at the end of February, breweries around the city will be celebrating the wonders of face-melting Starkbier through their respective Starkbierfest celebrations.

What Is The Munich Starkbierfest?
During the springtime between Karnaval and Easter, Munich hosts the Starkbierfest (Strong Beer Festival).
Beer lovers in the local beer halls and breweries consume heavy quantities of strong beer during this time period – some even begin in February!
It is still probably the least known of Munich’s beer festivals despite being historically (and socially) a pretty big part of the city’s annual events calendar.
So, Where Can You Celebrate The Munich Starkbierfest? Here’s a quick guide:
Paulaner am Nockherberg Starkbierfest
Well let’s start with the obvious shall we? The most famous Starkbierfest in Munich takes place at the Paulaner am Nockherberg, where plenty of bench-dancing and Sweet Caroline await.
They’ve been celebrating Starkbierfest every year here since 1870, so they definitely know what they’re doing… the Paulaner monks did pioneer the whole Starkbier thing, after all!
Festivities kick off here after the famous Starkbierantisch on March 1 – so if musical/political roasts are your thing, keep an eye out for that!

Löwenbräukeller Starkbierfest
Triumphator fans, unite! The Löwenbräukeller will once again be decked out for Starkbierfest shenanigans.
With the initial tapping event planned for March 1, 2023 and then plenty of beer a flowin’ every weekend until the end of the month.
When: March 1 – March 23, 2024
Where: Löwenbräukeller, Nymphenburger Str. 2

Augustiner Keller Starkbierfest
Looking to slurp on some sweet, sweet Maximator? Starkbierfest at Augustiner-Keller (Munich’s oldest brewery) has you covered!
Live music and drunken debauchery await from the end of February until the end of March!
When: February 22 – March 21, 2024

Donisl Starkbierfest
For three great weeks in March you can pop by this central Munich spot for a nice dark beer for a nice low price.
And if you are looking to enjoy Bavarian music and a good atmosphere, you should stop by on Fridays and Saturdays in the evening.

Ayinger Bräustüberl Starkbierfest
For those of you outside of Munich, Ayinger Starkbierfest is a great option.
Here you can enjoy the special Ayinger Celebrator Starkbier and all the great live music, wirtshaus vibes. Just make sure you email them directly for table reservations as you cannot book online. Just send your request over to alexander.moosbauer@ayinger.de !

Perlacher Bräustüberl Starkbierfest
The Perlacher Bräustüberl Starkbierfest will happen every Friday and Saturday from 6p.m to 10p.m from mid-February to late March. They will also be offering not just one but two different starkbier variations; Jakobator and Valentinator!

Hofbräukeller Starkbierfest
The Hofrbäukeller is hosting its first Starkbierfest event this year with Gery and Gary! Taking place on the first floor, come and celebrate this weekend with strong beer and an always strong menu. Welcome Hofrbäukeller to the Starkbierfest family this February 23rd and 24th!
