Welcome to Foodie Friday! This is a special weekly feature from @whatandieeats, featuring a new restaurant recommendation every week. For more tasty food photos, be sure to follow her on Instagram.
For this week’s culinary adventure, we took a Corona safe trip to Hawaii right here in Munich. MAUI Hawasian Kitchen & Bar offers a Hawaiian-Asian fusion that brings some of your favorite dishes to a new light.
Here’s a recap and review of our experience!
The Food at MAUI Hawasian Kitchen & Bar: What We Ordered
We went a little overboard and ordered a lot of different things because we honestly couldn’t decide on a single item.
Starters
On our starter list, we tried the crispy duck summer rolls that were absolutely perfect, coconut shrimp that tasted so fresh and had the loudest most delectable crunch with savory Chili-ginger sauce on the side.
We ordered some Bao Taco with BBQ pork that was marinated in a caramelized sauce that came in the cutest, plumpest buns. You get two in the order and if you don’t like to share delicious food we suggest getting a second order so you can have one all to yourself!
We also went with the classic edamame because every table needs its edamame fix!
Main Dishes
For our main courses, we tried three different dishes. The Ahi Tuna & Spicy Salmon Salad Bowl was everything you could want in a bowl, it was a refreshing bit of fresh greens, a perfectly chopped up and balanced portion of tuna and salmon lightly dressed with onion ponzu chili mayo sauce.
If you want to be extra you can order a meal in a pineapple, which of course we did!
The Tamarind Sauce with Beef was served in half a pineapple, this dish was a bit on the sweet side with chunks of pineapple and other veggies. For a second, you could imagine you were sitting on the beaches of Hawaii.
For the last main course, we ordered from the wok menu, Lemongrass aus Omas KΓΌche. This dish was more savory, the rice on the side was perfectly sticky, vegetables were cooked on point and the variety of veggies complimented the balance between the meat.
Dessert
After all this food we decided to finish strong with dessert! Their selection is small but mighty, we ordered the Lemongrass Panna Cotta, the Mochi Mix and the Tiramisu shot, which yes, is an ACTUAL shot.
The presentation was great, very Instagram worthy but the taste is even better. It was hard not to finish these desserts even after having several other dishes.
The Atmosphere at MAUI Hawasian Kitchen & Bar
Let’s not forget to mention the atmosphere! If you’re thinking about taking a tropical vacation but find yourself on a budget you can step inside this restaurant and transport yourself directly to paradise surrounded by tropical plants, with mood music and bird accents chirping around you. The staff also wear Hawaiian shirts to really set the mood.
