It’s open season for outdoor cinemas – luckily Munich has several stunning locations to rug up and watch your favourite flicks under the stars.
Check out our top 5 spots in and around Munich to grab some popcorn and enjoy the balmy summer night!
Kino Mond & Sterne
Our personal favourite – make sure you head in early as the seats here fill up fast. This is Munich’s oldest open air cinema, located at the ampitheatre Seebühne in Westpark. This is our top spot to catch the latest summer blockbusters and Oscar nominees.
Opening: June 6, 2022 to September 6, 2022
Cost: Tickets are 9€ or 11€ for a double feature
Kino am Olympiasee
Located in the Olympiapark – relax on one of the comfy deckchairs or spring for a 2 person loveseat and enjoy. If you’re not feeling super confident with your German, this cinema is a great shout as they also run a lot of English film options.
Opening: May 12,2022 until August 2022 (where they will close temporarily to join the 50 year Olympic anniversary)
Cost: Tickets start at 9.50€ for picnic seating, 13.50 EUR and up for seating
HFF Pop-Up Kino
If you like to settle back and watch something a bit more weird and wonderful, check out the HFF pop up located in the courtyard at the University of Film and Television – there’s a variety of festivals and small indie films to choose from.
Opening: July 15,2022 to August 15,2022
Cost: Entrance/ticket price varies depending on film
Drive In Kino Aschheim
Dial it back old school and literally park up at this drive-in. You won’t be stranded, nor branded a fool (bonus points for the reference)
If you want to shake it up and experience a slightly different variation of the open air cinema, this Autokino has a wide range of classics and a few new surprises to choose from.
Opening: Open year round
Cost: Tickets are 9€-11€
Starnberg FS Film Festival
Catch the S-Bahn to Starnberg and enjoy this festival which celebrates feature, documentary, and short films from around central Europe – great films, beautiful landscape, and top class panel discussions for the movie buffs among you.
Opening: August 24, 2022 to September 04, 2022
Cost: Tickets start at 10€
